Dr. Joyce Fried

Joyce M. Fried - Vice President, FNDD

Joyce M. Fried brings over 25 years of extensive experience in medical education administration, accreditation, strategic planning, teaching, course development, and project management. Her distinguished career includes serving as Assistant Dean at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and as Co-Director of the UCLA Office of Continuing Medical Education. In these dual roles, she had a significant impact on every aspect of the medical education continuum.
In the Dean’s Office, Joyce was responsible for planning, overseeing, and implementing large, complex initiatives, including medical school accreditation by the national accrediting body, adherence to standards, strategic planning, and industry relations. She also made valuable contributions to medical education by teaching second-year medical students as a Doctoring instructor. Joyce was a key figure in spearheading initiatives aimed at creating a respectful culture and environment in medicine, culminating in the publication of a seminal paper on this topic in Academic Medicine in 2012
In her continuing medical education role, Joyce managed all administrative aspects of the program and played a crucial part in developing courses, content, and innovations that have shaped the field.
Currently, Joyce operates a consulting practice, working with medical schools seeking accreditation or reaccreditation. She also serves as a leadership coach and strategic planning consultant for the Executive Service Corps of Southern California. Her leadership extends to her role as Chair of the Strategic Affairs Committee of the Society for Academic Continuing Medical Education, where she also serves on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee. Additionally, Joyce is an active member of the Community Health Advisory Committee at Dignity Health – California Hospital Medical Center.
